News Desk: A notification has been issued declaring a three-day consecutive holiday for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja 2026. However, the notification specifies that government offices will remain open on the upcoming October 17 (Saturday).
The notification, issued on Wednesday, October 7, by the ‘Rules-6’ branch of the Ministry of Public Administration, states that holidays will be observed from October 20 to 22 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja 2026. All government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain open on October 17 (Saturday).
The notification also specifies which sectors are excluded from the holiday:
Vehicles and personnel engaged in essential services—such as electricity, water, gas and other fuels, fire services, port operations, sanitation activities, telephone and internet services, postal services, and related operations—are excluded from this holiday. Hospitals, emergency services, and personnel associated with these services are also excluded.
Doctors and staff engaged in medical care, as well as vehicles and personnel transporting medicines and medical equipment, are excluded from the holiday. Offices involved in emergency work are also excluded.
Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary directives regarding the continuation of banking operations. The notification states that the Honorable Supreme Court will issue necessary directives regarding court proceedings.
Regarding holidays in the private sector, the notification states that the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue necessary directives in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, concerning the declaration of general holidays for private sector industrial establishments, factories, and organizations.
